94th Anniversary of the Birth of Academician Manash Kozybayev

The university honored the memory of an outstanding scholar, academician, and public figure, Manash Kozybayev, whose name the university has carried with pride since 2003.

Manash Kozybayev made a great contribution to the development of historical scholarship in Kazakhstan. His research, fundamental works, and dedication to his field became an important part of shaping modern Kazakhstan historical thought. He combined academic depth, a strong civic stance, and a sincere love for his homeland. For our youth, his name is a symbol of devoted service to science and society.

This year Kozybayev University celebrated the 94th anniversary of the birth of Manash Kozybayev.

The commemorative events began with a flower-laying ceremony at the bust of Manash Kozybayev. This was followed by the presentation of the renovated lobby of 6th campus with a new open-space area for students. An exhibition dedicated to the legacy of the great son of the Kazakh people was also organized there.

A key event was the opening of the Manash Kozybayev Hall. The hall will host university events and student classes. In the coworking area on the second floor, students will be able to study literature independently, relax, and socialize.

Addressing the audience, the head of the Communal State Institution (CSI) “Qogamdyq kelisim,” Kemel Ospanov, emphasized the significance of M. Kozybayev’s legacy for future generations and spoke about the process of naming our university after the celebrated academician:

“The members of the regional onomastic commission included prominent scholars from our university: V. Seibert, F. Sim, K. Kaliev, N. Beletskaya, and others. Great importance was attached to the proper legal preparation of documents, the identification of key scientific justifications, and it required a high level of responsibility. This included justifying the naming, its historical significance, and gaining public support. Each document was carefully reviewed by regional specialists. The next step is coordination with ministries and government agencies—a process that takes time. After that, the documents proceed to the Republican Onomastic Commission. The result of this complex and painstaking work was a Government Resolution, according to which, on May 30, 2003, the university was named after Academician Manash Kozybayev. This marked a major milestone in the history of our region.

On the same day, the winners of the Republican Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC) were also honored. Special recognition was given to students who excelled in academics, science, sports, and social activities; they received the Manash Kozybayev named grants. This year, a total of 15 students were awarded.

At the conclusion of the ceremonial event, the first lecture for students of the International Campus was held in the named hall, dedicated to the life and work of Manash Kozybayev.
