International CDIO Experience for the Development of Engineering Programs at Kozybayev University

Representatives of Kozybayev University took part in the international CDIO Asian Regional Meeting 2026, held at D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University.

The discussions focused on the development of engineering education amid technological transformation, CDIO approaches, university–industry collaboration, and the application of artificial intelligence.

The CDIO methodology focuses on educating engineers through the full cycle of developing an engineering product: from generating an idea and designing a solution to its implementation and operation. This approach makes it possible to integrate fundamental and professional training with project-based learning, teamwork, and practical problem-solving.

For Kozybayev University, exploring international CDIO experience is particularly relevant to the further development of engineering and digital education programs. One such case is the use of CDIO elements in developing cross-disciplinary engineering projects that bring together students from different educational programs. Mechanical engineering, energy, automation, information technology, and artificial intelligence can be integrated around solving real-world industrial challenges in the region.

This approach is also relevant to the development of the Kozybayev University Advanced Engineering School. A promising model would involve industry partners in defining engineering challenges, student teams working through the full development cycle, and university laboratories serving as facilities for designing, prototyping, and testing solutions.
