Open Dialogue on Drug Abuse Prevention and Responsibility for the Drug Trade

Kozybayev University held a meeting between students and Bakytzhan Amirkhanov, Police Colonel and Head of a Department of the Committee for Combating Drug-Related Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The main focus of the meeting was drug abuse prevention and combating the drug trade.

The discussion was open and substantive, covering how the modern drug trade operates, why “easy money” as a drug courier or stash-house operative can lead to criminal liability and a ruined life, how to recognize recruitment attempts through messengers and social media, and where to seek help.

Students actively took part in the dialogue and asked questions. The participants then watched the documentary film Stashers, an honest account of where one reckless decision can actually lead.

The students were particularly interested in a demonstration of the work of police service dogs. They had an opportunity to see how specially trained canine partners detect narcotic substances, follow commands, and assist law enforcement officers in their search operations.

The event was organized as part of the nationwide principle of “Law and Order.”
