Astrophysical research centre

Astrophysical Research Center (ARC, the head Sergei Aleksandrovich Sartin, Candidate in mathematical and physical science) includes: Astrophysical Observatory and Planetarium. The observatory is equipped with an optical telescope Ritchey-Chretien with an aperture of 0.77 m. A wide range of researches carried out due to the spectral instrument's high-quality and efficient light-receiving equipment in the observatory.

Experimental and theoretical researches of mesospheric noctilucent clouds (MNC) have been carried out in the 2006-2013 years have got fame and recognition in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as in foreign countries. The hypothesis about the relationship of their appearance with the weather and climate changes on Earth were nominated and confirmed by the Scientists of ARC of NKSU. An unprecedented concept has developed, explaining the origin of some forms of MNC action of active processes in the Earth's troposphere.

Major achievements of research into the nature of light variation of long-period variable stars are also marked. A new concept of the physical nature of the changes in the luminosity of the red giant members of a multiple star system, which received approval in FLLR APhIF in Almaty and the Sternberg Astronomical Institute in Moscow, and has no analogues in the world practice is created.

The Earth remote sensing (ERS) data, namely, satellite images can be widely used in many sectors of the economy of the northern region of Kazakhstan. Popularization of information, obtained from space, allows for the possibility of its use in daily activities at land surveying, cadastral works and in various types of land monitoring.

Astrophysical Research Center staff NKSU named after M. Kozybayev created space monitoring center in the framework of the project "Earth remote sensing (ERS) from space in order to solve practical problems in various fields of economic activity".

Development of mechanisms of cooperation carried out between the state authorities (including legal persons) and population of the country on the basis of GIS technology. In part, the creation of a unified geographic information system (GIS) for land resources and objects of real estate have made conditional by the needs of legal and physical persons, as well as the employees themselves departments of property and land relations and employees of municipal administrations of district and settlement level in the industry.

Geographic information system - software and hardware system that can enter, save, update, analyze and display all forms of geographically referenced information.

GIS have the following properties:

• spatiality;
• structuring of data;
• sectoral focus;
• a comprehensive and systematic approach to the study and display of geosystems ;
• adaptability and a lot of variance of problem solving with the possibility of a joint analysis of a large number of parameters characterizing geosystems.

GIS enable a rapid response to any emerging object- oriented situation to give it all necessary for cartographic and thematic information. On the basis of GIS it can simulate various processes, phenomena and study the change in their status over time.

Thus, GIS makes it possible to implement the introduction of remote sensing data to the various sectors of the economy of northern Kazakhstan. In particular, in the framework of project it proposes implementation of the target system monitoring (TSM) in many sectors .

Very interesting and promising results in the Northern Kazakhstan astroblems - geological formations associated with a fall to Earth asteroid sized bodies. It is shown, that the phenomena of this kind have made a significant contribution to the formation of the relief of the region and the occurrence of mineral deposits. An original research of meteor situation near the Earth was conducted in parallel to the directive in different seasons of the year.

A peculiar effect also had works on the study of the mineral resources of the Moon. A new method of detection and study of short-term lunar phenomena (SLP) has developed and introduced in the course of their manufacture. For the first time in Kazakhstan observations of such phenomena conducted, constructed their physical models.

Also, the software package is created for the formation of 3D video and stereo images based on the observational data with the help of technology NVIDIA CUDA. Creating a software package designed to handle the monitoring and spectral data. The developed software will improve the efficiency of processing of the observational data and significantly reduce processing time.

Strong research ties are established with scientists from other countries. The most effective cooperation with scientists from the Institute of Cosmic and Atmospheric Physics (Kiruna, Sweden) and the State Astronomical Institute named after Sternberg (Moscow State University, Russian Federation). Center staff noted the particular importance of the research, as well as the prospects of development of the tool base, which will allow in the future to address not only fundamental, but also applied problems.

During the existence of the observatory, on the basis of their own development, the Candidate thesis was defended at NC KIT FLLR "Astrophysical Institute" in Almaty. Also, 7 Master's theses and more than 20 diploma papers were defended at the Department of Physics, three students of Master programme continue education, preparing a thesis based on research conducted at the center. MA course is opened on "Astronomy". A constantly work conducts with pupils from city and regional schools on preparing research projects of schoolchild. 12 such works were performed, these works are of the first places.

On the basis of ARC, lessons and practices conduct of students of specialty "Astronomy" constantly, using the demonstration and observation techniques. In particular, using the planetarium projector, study the structure of the sky in detail cunducts. Using the observant equipment, skills of prompting on object and its subsequent registration are fulfilled.

ARC activity is performed in full compliance with the goals and objectives of teaching and research department of NKSU.

Particular attention is paid to the development of academic work on astronomy with students of specialty "Astronomy" and "Physics ". On the basis of ARC lectures, practical and laboratory classes on subjects are conducted:

1. General astronomy
2 . Astronomy
3 . Practical astrophysics
4 . Basis of Astrophysics

5. Astrophysics of the Solar System and Galaxy
6. Non-stationary stars
7. Astrometry
8. Extragalactic astronomy

In September 2011the scientific and practical conference "Actual problems of physics of celestial bodies and the plasma state of matter. Experiment and mathematical modeling " was held, which featured works from Europe, the CIS and Kazakhstan.

CAI receives delegations from around the world constantly. ARC work repeatedly is represented by a delegation of government and parliamentary groups RK, workers of MES RK, delegations of akimat and public organizations. Work directed on popularisation of researches spent in the centre is conducted. More than 40 articles were written in various publications, the media produced and aired on various levels for more than 30 stories about the work of the center. A particular attention is paid to the scientific-educational and career-oriented work. Updating as scientific and educational equipment is conducted. A new digital planetarium is purchased, allows more detail to project the stars as objects near and far space. Regularly educational lectures held on various subjects about the objects of space for the population of the city and region. Between the years 2005-2013 the total number of excursion made more than 300, while the number of visitors has exceeded the value of 10 thousand people.
