Three Fights — Three Victories: Student Nikita Kostornov Wins International Tournament

Second-year student Nikita Kostornov, enrolled in the Physical Education and Sport educational program at Kozybayev University, won an international boxing tournament dedicated to the memory of Alexander Miroshnichenko, Honoured Master of Sport of the USSR and a medalist at the Olympic Games and World Championships. The competition was held in Kostanay.

Our athlete represented the North Kazakhstan Region in the up to 85 kg weight category. Nikita had three bouts and won all three, earning the gold medal.

Preparation for the tournament began well in advance. According to Denis Yazykov, Senior Boxing Coach of the North Kazakhstan Region and a Kozybayev University graduate, the boxers took part in training camps focused on general physical conditioning, as well as a combat training camp in Karaganda.

The international tournament was an important stage in the North Kazakhstan boxers’ preparation for the Kazakhstan National Championship, which will be held in October in Taraz, as well as for the 2027 Summer Universiade of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty. At the championship, the athletes will compete for medals and an opportunity to join the Kazakhstan national team.
