The first two-degree educational programmes have been announced

A press tour of the North Kazakhstan Region's Akim Kumar Aksakalov was held today with representatives of the region's public. The delegates visited several facilities under construction in Petropavlovsk.

One of them was the new educational and laboratory building of Kozybayev University. According to Yerlan Shulanov, Chairman of the Board Rector, it is expected that in September our students will start studying here, including those who will be able to enter the dual degree programme implemented in collaboration with the University of Arizona.

"Given the key priorities of the region, the focus will be on educational programmes in agro-technical and engineering fields. Now our professors, together with their American colleagues, are working to develop two programs: agronomy (crop production) and applied biotechnology with a focus on food processing," said Yerlan Shulanov.

The first intake will be done under government grants. They will bring in professors from the U.S. and from some of Kazakhstan's leading universities to teach the classes. About 50 of our teachers will improve their skills through internships at the University of Arizona, 200 will undergo language training and 10 joint research projects will be launched.

"This is a very important project for the social and economic development of the region. That is why this ULC is being built, equipment is being purchased, the University of Arizona is being involved, i.e. all of this in combination should result in the best children graduating from school coming here", - informed the Akim of the region.
