Discussed the forthcoming constitutional reform

On June 5, a republican referendum on amendments to the Constitution will be held in Kazakhstan. As you know, the referendum is an important element of democratic reforms. This is a large-scale process of expressing the will of citizens, expressed in voting on the most significant issues for the state and society. The changes will affect 31 existing articles, additions will include two new articles. Thus, the Constitution, consisting of 98 articles, will be updated by one third.

This was discussed at a meeting of students and teaching staff with representatives of the Bolashak branch of the AMANAT party, MK Jas Otan and the Youth Resource Center of Petropavlovsk. The event was devoted to explaining the forthcoming Constitutional reforms. “The announcement of the referendum is a vivid manifestation of the concept of the Listening State,” the participants noted.

Recall that among the important changes are planned: the complete abolition of the death penalty, the ownership of Kazakhstani land and its subsoil to the people, in the Mazhilis the electoral system is changing from a representative to a mixed one. As a result of the Constitutional reform, for the period of exercising their powers, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is excluded from belonging to any political party, and his close relatives will not be able to hold leadership positions in state and quasi-state structures. It is also planned to expand the powers of the Chambers of Parliament, increasing their independence. In total, a nationwide vote will be held on 33 constitutional amendments.
