More than 300 enthusiastic young learners from schools across the North Kazakhstan region and Petropavl gathered at Kozybayev University for the Language Olympiad. This long-standing event, organized by the Institute of Language and Literature for more than 20 years serves the noble purpose of recognizing and nurturing students with a keen passion for languages, have creative abilities and an interest in research activities. 10th and 11th grade participants from gymnasiums and lyceums engage in competitions including Literature, Kazakh, English, Russian, German, and French.
The Olympiad is organized in two stages, testing students' proficiency in reading, listening, speaking, and essay writing, followed by an examination of lexical and grammatical skills. Literary tasks contained analysis of provided texts and the adept ability to engage in dialogues inspired by them. Also, within the framework of the event, a presentation of the university's philological educational programs and a creative competition "Lingua Show" are held among participants.
Reflecting on the event's impact, Elena Sabieva, Director of the Institute of Language and Literature, shares: "Approximately 35% of our Olympiad participants, schoolchildren from the 10th to the 11th grade, pursue further studies at our institute and eventually becoming valued members of our academic community. Notably, we recently introduced a new specialization in philology, whose graduates proficient in Kazakh, Russian, and Turkish languages. We are waiting for aspiring linguists!"
