Republican Challenge for the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression and Famine

The challenge "Tarihi Sana - Myzғymas Bіrlіk - Kemel Keleshқek" was initiated by the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan department at Kozybayev University as part of the activities of the Association of Departments of the APK "Shanyrak". The challenge took place over the course of a month.

It was dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression and Famine, which is observed in Kazakhstan on May 31. The goal of the challenge was to draw public attention to the inevitability of justice for unjustly repressed citizens during the period from 1920 to 1980 and to prevent the recurrence of such a tragedy. In accordance with the establishment of a "listening" and just Kazakhstan, the State Commission for the Full Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression was established in 2020, which worked for 3 years.

Colossal work has been done to identify new categories and individuals who have not yet been rehabilitated. Challenge participants shared their experiences working in the State Commission and regional groups that researched a vast array of archival documents and conducted interviews with descendants, which were compiled into collections of documents published based on the activities of the State Commission. Among the challenge participants were faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students. They shared the stories of their families who went through the "bloody crucible" of repression.

This challenge is an action in support of the Association of Departments of the APK of Kazakhstan's universities in line with the country's leadership policy to build a just Kazakhstan, prevent violations of citizens' rights, and preserve the bright memory of the innocent victims.
