Today, the university held events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding scientist Evney Arstanovich Buketov. This renowned scientist in the fields of chemistry and metallurgy — a writer, poet, public figure, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, and laureate of the USSR State Prize (1969) — is our fellow countryman. He made a significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstani science. He researched the chemistry and technology of selenium and tellurium, ways to improve the extraction of molybdenum and rhenium, and the comprehensive processing of manganese ores. An important event for our university was the naming of the main lecture hall of Kozybayev University after Academician Evney Buketov.
“Every time they come to lectures, our students will see the portrait of Evney Arstanovich and learn about his life. This will serve as a great guide for them to gain knowledge and strive to make a contribution to the development of their country. It should be noted that E. Buketov was not only a brilliant scientist, but also a wise mentor — a personality who left a deep mark on the history of Kazakhstani education and science. We want this auditorium to become a centre of attraction for those who strive for knowledge, dream of scientific discoveries, and are ready to study for the benefit of our Motherland!” said Chairman of the Board- Rector Yerbol Isakaev.
The university also hosted an international scientific and practical conference entitled “Youth and Science–2025: Modern Challenges and Scientific Approaches to Solving Them,” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of E. A. Buketov. It became an important platform for exchanging scientific ideas, strengthening international cooperation, and supporting young scientists. We received over 200 scientific papers from Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries. The international scale of the event was underscored by the participation of prominent scientists and guests from the United States, Italy, and Turkey. Our strategic partner, the University of Arizona, was represented by Professors Rod Wing, Jennifer Wing, Tony Sparks, and Vladlena Kharchenko. A special and touching moment was the participation in the event of E. A. Buketov’s relatives, led by his sister, Doctor of Philology Nursulu Buketova. She shared valuable memories of the life and scientific career of Evney Arstanovich.
She also presented a one-time scholarship of 50,000 tenge from her family to our university student Aya Jan Ilyas for a scientific project dedicated to E. A. Buketov. In addition, three winners of the student chemistry competition were awarded prizes. We are grateful for such support for our students! On this day, a number of teachers, young scientists, students, and our co-researchers in joint scientific activities were also awarded for their conscientious work and significant contributions to the development of knowledge and technology, in connection with the celebration of Science Workers’ Day. Five young scientists from the university received certificates from the akim of the North Kazakhstan Region.
