Students AGAINST corruption

On December 9, 2019, on the international day of the fight against corruption, the Department “Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan” and the project office “Sanaly Urpak” of M. Kozybayev NKSU held a focus group with university student activism.

Students were given the opportunity to form a collective opinion and make specific proposals to combat corruption.

According to students, corruption is a crime, illegal action, public evil. In their opinion, the causes of corruption are the twisted consciousness of the participants in this process in a quicker and easier way to obtain the desired results illegally. Among the methods of the fight against corruption known in the world practice were the death penalty, imprisonment, confiscation of property, fines, dismissal from senior positions, and widespread media coverage. Among the effective measures to combat corruption were two measures: DO NOT GIVE or DO NOT TAKE BRIBES, as well as improving the legal framework for combating corruption, creating zero tolerance in the society for various manifestations of corruption, wider coverage of cases of corruption in the media, and preventive work among the population.

The compliance officer of the “Sanaly Urpak” project office Petrov Bogdan provided information on the activities of the new anti-corruption structure, which was opened at the university at the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year:

• increasing anti-corruption literacy;
• openness and transparency in decision making;
• academic honesty;
• legal education;
• information support.
