Briefing "Start of archaeological expeditions in North Kazakhstan region and 750th anniversary of the Golden Horde Foundation"

The medieval period in Northern Kazakhstan is still poorly studied, since archaeological research here concerned mainly the era of the Stone and Bronze Ages. Therefore, the discovery by the scientists of the M. Kozybaev NKSU of the Mausoleums of the Golden Horde era in the area of Kyzyloba, near the Bereke aul of the North Kazakhstan region and subsequent excavations gave answers to many historical questions. In particular, the mazars found, gold jewelry, masonry, household items and the irrigation system may indicate the presence of developed settled agriculture, urban lifestyles of ancient people in the North of Kazakhstan. Previously, it was believed that only nomadic farming was common here.

This was at a briefing on the site of the Qyzyljar television channel, said Akmaral Ibrayeva, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation.“The opening of a monument of medieval urban architecture in Northern Kazakhstan opens up new pages in the history of Kazakhstan related to the formation of statehood on the territory of Saryarka in the era of the Golden Horde and the Kazakh Khanate. Weak knowledge of the monuments of this period in the north of the country, the need to recreate a full-scale picture of the cultural, historical and economic processes in the territory of steppe Eurasia in the XIV-XVI centuries. emphasize the relevance of further scientific research,” said Akmaral Gosmanovna.

Excavations at the monument of Kyzyloba will be carried out together with the scientists of PSPU. Also, experts from Russia and Ukraine are involved in the restoration and archiving of the found artifacts.

Rakat Mambetalinov, director of the Center for the Protection and Use of Historical and Cultural Heritage, said that for half a century the North Kazakhstan archaeological expedition was able to enrich world science. An active team of archaeologists was formed, each of whom made a great contribution to the study of archaeological monuments of Northern Kazakhstan: the settlements of Botai, the mound of Baikar. Traditionally, the main backbone of North Kazakhstan archaeological expedition is made up of scientists and students of M. Kozybayev NKSU.
