The expedition of archaeologists M. Kozybaev NKSU went to the Kyzyloba excavation site

For the second year now, an archaeological expedition from among students and teachers of the M. Kozybayev North-Kazakhstan State University leaves for the excavation of the medieval monument of Kyzylobov in the Ualikhanovsky district of the North Kazakhstan region. Researchers under the direction of the assistant professor of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and SHD Anatoly Pleshakov will dig unique mausoleums of the Golden Horde era for a month. They will be joined by colleagues from Pavlodar State Pedagogical University. Recall that the discovery made in 2019 gave the world an idea of the presence of urban culture in the steppes of Northern Kazakhstan.

In a festive atmosphere, our archaeologists were taken on the road. Kyzyloba is about 550 km away. A camp was set up for them, together with the akimat of the Ualikhanovsky district, they created favorable conditions for research and living on the excavation site. 10 of our students will be able to touch antiquity with their own hands, learn a lot about the way of life of ancient people.

According to Anatoly Pleshakov, scientists hope to unearth one of the 7 found mazars. According to archaeologists, this was a vaulted building with an area of 20 by 30 m and a height of 30 m.The thickness of the discovered burnt brick walls is 1.5-2 m. This monumental and rich structure - a family tomb, could belong to noble nomads of the Genghisids. This is also confirmed by the discovered gold jewelry, stripes on clothes.

The expedition will last until July 10. The main thing is that the weather does not disappoint, but that Kyzyloba will give many more new discoveries, scientists have no doubt.
