Archaeological work at the Kyzyloba monument completed

Students and teachers of Kozybayev University have returned from the excavation of the medieval monument Kyzyloba. In the Ualikhanov district of the North Kazakhstan region, they were supposed to excavate for a month, but due to the strengthening of quarantine measures in Kazakhstan, they had to return a week earlier.

Recall that a year ago, our scientists discovered the unique mausoleums of the Golden Horde era, where there are 7 burials, presumably the Genghisids. This is evidenced by the scale of the tombs and the gold jewelry found last year. Here, archaeologists saw multiple traces of the ancient irrigation system: irrigation ditches and the remains of water-lifting mechanisms.

This time, too, we managed to find parts of ceramics and chigir vessels that supplied water. All artifacts were delivered to the university, where they will be reconstructed in a specialized laboratory. Details of the products need to be selected, fixed with plaster, and a complete restoration cycle must be carried out.

An area of ​​150 sq.m. was worked at the excavation site. They removed the top layer and, from the previously discovered corner of the mausoleum, moved to the center. Our expedition was joined by colleagues from the Pavlodar State Pedagogical University. The aggravation of the epidemiological situation in the country violated the plans of scientists. It was not possible to excavate deeper archaeological deposits. Now the monument has been conserved and will be waiting for its researchers.
