Opening of a joint Kazakh-Chinese laboratory at Kozybayev University

The laboratory "Biotechnology of agricultural plants" was created as a result of joint scientific activities of Kozybayev University with the North-West University of Agriculture and Forestry (PRC, Yangling).

Equipment for experiments in the amount of 15 million tenge came to us free of charge from China. Its presentation was held for the guests of the event: representatives of the Department of Agriculture of the North Kazakhstan region, LLP "North Kazakhstan Research Institute of Agriculture", Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Petropavlovsk; LLP "North Kazakhstan Agricultural Experimental Station", LLP "Agro Lab".

In the modern laboratory, scientific research will be carried out on biotechnological methods of improving the planting material of potatoes using the culture of apical meristems and mass micropropagation. In addition to conducting scientific research, students and undergraduates will also be able to study here, which will allow achieving high quality standards of education in the field of training agricultural specialists.

Shan Weixing, Dean of the College of Agronomy, Professor of the Northwestern University of Agriculture and Forestry of China, made an online appeal to Kazakhstani partners. He spoke about the fruitful work done on the opening of the Agrotechnopark at our university in 2018 within the framework of the Alliance for Agricultural Education and Scientific and Technical Innovations on the Silk Road. And he noted that today we can talk about the results achieved in this direction: an ecological test of more than 50 varieties of 10 agricultural crops was carried out, the most promising of them were selected for our region; the partner university provided free of charge small-sized agricultural machinery in the amount of 11 million tenge; 4 teachers of the Agrotechnological Faculty underwent a long-term foreign scientific internship in innovation laboratories, and 12 students went to study on academic mobility in the PRC.

Joint research will continue in the new laboratory. The established experiments will make it possible to identify virus-free varieties of potatoes and other crops that are most resistant to climatic and soil conditions in Northern Kazakhstan.
