Malygin was accepted to the position of associate professor of the Department of Zoology, then for two years he served as the head of this department. In 1969, he was elected by competition as the head of the Department of Zoology of the Petropavlovsk Pedagogical Institute, which was then renamed the Department of Anatomy and Physiology of Humans and Animals. Albert Mikhailovich over the years of work at our university was the head of the department, dean of the Faculty of Natural Geography, vice–rector for scientific work, rector of the university, after retirement - advisor to the rector. During the period of perestroika, free elections of the rector were held at the university for the first time, there were two applicants, and we must pay tribute to democracy: both competitors were worthy of becoming the head of the university. The victory was won by a more experienced one, and A.M. Malygin became the only rector in the history of the university, elected by the team. As a scientist and an active person, A.M. Malygin was able to organize the work of all departments competently. A significant place in the training of teachers was given to practical classes. So, in natural specialties, all types of practices were conducted at the agrobiostation of the university. Scientific experiments were conducted on its sites, training sessions were conducted on varietal selection and cultivation of fruit and berry crops in Northern Kazakhstan. A.M. Malygin attached great importance to the organization of scientific work at the university. During this period, there were few highly qualified specialists in individual departments at the university. Albert Mikhailovich tried to activate the scientific work of both teachers and students. He took personal control of the training of specialists in those departments where there were, to put it mildly, few, sometimes there was one candidate of sciences at the department or none at all. The Doctor of Sciences, who received the title of academician, by persuasion, personal example, help and advice, sought to break the usual calm vegetating. As a result, over the years of his work, the staff of teachers with academic degrees, including doctoral degrees, has been noticeably replenished.
For his long-term and conscientious work, A.M. Malygin was awarded government medals: "For valiant labor. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of V.I. Lenin", "Veteran of Labor", a medal named after him. Ibraya Altynsarina; signs: "For active work", "Excellent student of public education of the Kazakh SSR", "For excellent achievements in work", "Excellent student of education of the USSR". He was awarded the title of "Honored Worker of the Higher School of the Kazakh SSR". His name is listed in the general institute "Book of Honor".
In 1996, Albert Mikhailovich Malygin was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the city of Petropavlovsk for his services in the training of teaching staff and a great contribution to the public life of the city of Petropavlovsk.
