In the early 60s, Viktor Antonovich Bondarenko first crossed the threshold of the newly built sports hall of the K.D. Ushinsky Pedagogical Institute. As a student of the Petropavlovsk Technical School of Mechanization, he attracted the attention of a well-known coach in the city, a teacher of the pedagogical institute, a graduate of KAZGIFK Murzamukhamedov Khalil Jalilevich. It was his first teacher who became the main guide on the way to finding the meaning of life. At a young age, Victor realized that his goal in life was to achieve perfection in sports. From that moment on, he began to realize himself as an independent person. Since then, the life paths of the coach and the novice athlete have practically not diverged. On the advice of his mentor, Viktor Bondarenko became a student of the pedagogical Institute in 1966, and after completing his first year, as a promising athlete, he was invited to the Kazakh State Institute of Physical Culture. This translation also did not do without the participation of a mentor, who by that time was already working in Alma-Ata. Sporting successes were not long in coming. Victor fulfills the standard of the Master of sports of the USSR, becomes the champion of Kazakhstan among youth, the prize-winner of the All-Union Universiade. He successfully combined sports with studies, receiving only excellent grades. However, the love of sports was stronger than any hobbies and tempting prospects.

After graduation, having received a diploma with the qualification of a trainer-teacher of physical culture and a methodologist of health work, V.A. Bondarenko came to his hometown in the direction of the Ministry of Education and was hired at the Pedagogical Institute as a teacher of the Department of Sports Disciplines. From the very beginning of his university career, Viktor Antonovich was actively involved in the educational and training process. His teachers, among whom were N.T. Makoev, E.N. Weiner, S.B. Kaverin, M.F. Kosykh, G.N. Porotikov, M.S. Bazilevsky, spouses I.I. and L.A. Kruchiny, N.N. Kolesova, T.A. Terekhina, now become colleagues at work, and this played a key role in the formation of a young teacher of the department. He was lucky, as he always says, with the first heads of the university: V.A. Tsaturyan, K.Sh. Shakenov, A.M. Malygin, G.M. Mutanov, about whom he always speaks with great gratitude.

The goals and objectives of his future activities were determined back at the student's bench – to educate athletes with a world name. In less than eight years, he managed to carry out his plans. His pupils: Vladimir Lukin, Alexander Kistenev, Anatoly Grigoriev, Vladimir Zhikhar, Vadim Shakshakbayev, Vladimir Klepinin – become champions of Kazakhstan, the USSR, world record holders.

Experienced mentors, among whom was a professor, a well–deserved coach of the USSR, Mai Undeevich Hwang, said at the beginning of his coaching career that sports without science is the way to nowhere. Research activities and experiments have become an invariable attribute of V.A. Bondarenko's activity. From the first steps of his activity, he collaborates with well-known scientists who conducted research in the field of highlands. The results of the research were used in working with the national teams of Kazakhstan and in other republics of the USSR. He is thanked by the winners of the Olympic Games for his huge contribution to the development of Kazakh and Soviet sports and victories at international tournaments. The National Olympic Committee awards Viktor Antonovich with an Olympic gold medal, and the Ministry of Culture and Sports confers the title of "Honorary Figure of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan". His scientific articles are published in local, national and foreign publications. His published books "To the heights of mastery", "Sports in their lives", "A Footprint on earth and in human Memory", as well as the results of scientific research allowed the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan to award him the title of associate professor, and after a while – the title of professor of pedagogy. Recognition of the merits of V.A. Bondarenko was confirmed by the awarding of the title of Honorary Professor in 2015.

Viktor Antonovich pays a lot of attention to socio-political work. Four times, since 1989, he was elected deputy of the Regional Council of People's Deputies and the regional maslikhat. He headed the permanent commission on parliamentary powers and protection of human rights. According to the results of the rating of deputies of the regional maslikhat for four convocations on participation in solving problems of voters, activity at sessions was among the first. Three times deputies trusted Viktor Antonovich to head the regional public committee for organizing the election campaign of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Over the years of working jointly, Viktor Antonovich has established himself as a professional in his field, he is distinguished by the desire to bring the business started to its logical conclusion, dedication, responsibility for the final result of work, the ability to listen, help with advice and deed. Numerous of his students hold responsible positions in the field of education, public administration, law enforcement agencies and business. For 27 years, on the first Saturday of July, they have come to visit him for a traditional meeting to share their family joys, achievements in work or just have a heart-to-heart talk.

Having gone on a well-deserved rest, V.A. Bondarenko continues to cooperate with the publishing house "North Kazakhstan", takes part in the work of the Public Council of Petropavlovsk, the National Olympic Committee of the Republic. For the successes achieved in life, he is grateful to his parents, simple workers, relatives, school teachers, coaches and his colleagues.
