Vasily Mikhailovich Zveryachenko was born on January 9, 1928 in Voronezh. After graduating from high school, in 1945 he enrolled the Voronezh Forestry Institute for the specialty "Forestry" and in 1949 received the qualification of a forestry engineer. After graduation, by the decision of the State Commission, he was allocated to the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Here he was offered a choice of any region of Kazakhstan, since there were practically no specialists of this field anywhere. The young specialist chose the North Kazakhstan region because he had heard a lot about the birch beauties of this region. The further decision on the place of work and in the region depended on Vasily Zveryachenko himself. He could choose any forestry from 12 newly organized. The choice fell on the Oktyabrsky forestry. Although it was a roulette game, since the districts were unknown to him, but the work turned out to be interesting and lasted for 8 years, during which Vasily Mikhailovich managed to work as an engineer, senior forester and director of a forestry enterprise.

In 1957, Vasily Mikhailovich was transferred to work in the regional administration. This is how a new stage in his life begins. V.M. Zveryachenko, having familiarized himself with the situation of forestry in the region, begins to understand that there are many "white spots" in this branch of the economy, and it is not possible to solve them by administrative methods. It was necessary to solve them from the standpoint of scientific knowledge. Vasily Mikhailovich creates a regional "Society for the Protection of Nature". Many problems were related to the lack of relevant State laws. This issue was resolved positively in the 60s, when the Ministry of Ecology was created

In 1965, V.M. Zveryachenko moved to the position of senior researcher at the Kazakh Research Institute, where he worked on a problem related to the creation of a pine culture in birch cuttings. In 1973, Vasily Mikhailovich Zveryachenko defended his dissertation on the topic "The creation of common pine crops in the birch stakes of the North Kazakhstan region", in 1974. he is awarded the degree of Candidate of Agricultural Sciences in the specialty "Forest crops, breeding, seed production and urban greening".

In 1974, Vasily Mikhailovich Zveryachenko moved to teaching at the Petropavlovsk Pedagogical Institute named after K.D. Ushinsky, where he worked as an associate professor of the department for 42 years.

Students listened to lectures on soil science with great interest, and they were eager to get their first experience of soil analysis in practice. In addition to educational activities, the scientist-practitioner effectively led and continues to lead research in the field of applied scientific research related to the development of forestry in the region. Under his leadership, from 2009 to 2016, 18 contractual topics were completed, more than 2000 hectares of state forest fund lands were investigated, a method of pine conservation was proposed, which ensures the growth of pine by more than 30%. This method has been successfully implemented in the practice of preserving relict trees in the monument of Republican significance "Serebryany Bor" on the territory of Sokolovsky district.

Vasily Mikhailovich Zveryachenko is a leading specialist in the examination of soils for forest suitability. In 2017, applications were received from the farms of the region for the study of 800 hectares of soils. At the same time, V.M. Zveryachenko is a consultant on the reconstruction of parks of culture and recreation. The experience of such work was acquired in landscaping the territory of the NKSU and Petropavlovsk.

His awards reflect his many years of conscientious work. He was awarded medals: "For valiant labor during the Great Patriotic War", "For the development of virgin and fallow lands", "For valiant labor. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of V.I. Lenin", "Veteran of labor", "Big Gold Medal of M. Kozybayev NKSU", "In honor of the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War", "In honor of the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War"; his work was awarded with Certificates of Honor, including the Diploma of the Supreme Council of Kazakhstan.
