Visit of Senator Erik Sultanov
A meeting of students with senator Erik Sultanov and deputy of the North Kazakhstan regional maslikhat Yeszhan Orazalin was held at the university. As part of his working visit to the North Kazakhstan region, the deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed the youth about the goals of the nationwide referendum. He spoke in detail about the amendments being made to the main document of the country.
“The essence of the forthcoming referendum is the constitutional reform. 33 articles are amended. The idea is to move from a super-presidential government to a presidential one, with a strong Parliament. Therefore, it is very important to make all the necessary changes to the Constitution. The President is relinquishing many of his powers. For example, he will no longer be a member of the party,” said Erik Sultanov.
An equally important amendment is the formation of the Constitutional Court, the senator believes. “Earlier, if there was a violation of the Constitution, no one except the President and the Parliament could apply to the Constitutional Council. Now every citizen will have the right to appeal to the Constitutional Court.” It is also expected to change the roles in the Parliament itself. The Majilis will now be the first link that adopts laws. Previously, on the contrary, the Mazhilis approved the laws, and the Senate passed the laws. Now the Senate will approve them. Note that the full text of the amendments being made has been published in the media. Every citizen of Kazakhstan can get acquainted with them before the referendum.
