Implementation of the project "Assessment of the reasones of illegal hunting for Lesser White-fronted Goose (Anser erythropus) in the Republic of Kazakhstan"

Lecturer of the department of General Biology of the North Kazakhstan State University named after M. Kozybayev, Master Zuban Ivan and the 2nd year Master's student of the specialty 6M060700 "Biology" Zhadan Konstantin, together with the employee of the Stirling University, Dr. PhD Isabel Jones took part in the project "Assessment of the reasones of illegal hunting for Lesser White-fronted Goose (Anser erythropus) in the Republic of Kazakhstan" in the period from September 20 to September 25, 2017.

The project is supervised by the "Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan", as well as the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Norwegian Environmental Protection Agency.

The project was implemented in pursuance of the International Plan of Action adopted under the Agreement on the Protection of Afro-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) for this species, as well as the ACBK Work Plan for 2016-2019. and is aimed at preserving a globally threatened species - Lesser White-fronted Goose - in Kazakhstan.

The main aim of the work is to conduct a survey among hunters on the developed questionnaire. Based on the results of a general study in the North Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions, we will reveal a number of reasons for illegal hunting for Lesser White-fronted Goose in key regions of their habitat in Kazakhstan.

Within 5 days, more than 10 water bodies were surveyed on the territory of the North Kazakhstan region, more than 50 hunters were interviewed, countings of waterfowl were recorded.

In general, the expedition was successful, all tasks were fulfilled, the participants of the working group received moral satisfaction from communication with nature.
