Research Laboratory of Water Quality Assessment

The Water Quality Assessment Research Laboratory was established in 2026 as part of project BR28712227, “Development and Implementation of High-Tech Solutions for Monitoring, Treatment and Rational Use of Water Resources in the North Kazakhstan Region to Ensure Public Health.”

The laboratory operates in rooms 027 and 112 of the ELC, providing a full cycle of analytical research, from sample preparation to high-precision instrumental analysis.

The laboratory's activities are aimed at addressing issues related to monitoring, assessing and improving water resource quality, introducing modern analytical methods, and conducting research and applied work in the fields of water ecology and water treatment.

Laboratory objective: Comprehensive assessment of the physicochemical, organic and microbiological composition of drinking and surface water, including the identification of pollutants and the assessment of sanitary and epidemiological safety.

Main objectives of the laboratory:

Physicochemical water analysis:

• Determination of turbidity, salinity, hardness, dissolved oxygen, heavy metals, and anions (nitrates, sulfates, phosphates, etc.).
• UV spectrophotometer (Shimadzu UV-1900i) – analysis of complex systems using differential spectrophotometry.
• 940 Professional IC Vario ion chromatograph – determination of the ionic composition of drinking and surface water.
• MGA-1000 atomic absorption spectrometer with electrothermal atomization.
• RA-915M mercury analyzer.

Organic composition and pesticides:

• HPLC with a mass detector (Triple Quad 5500+ liquid chromatography–mass spectrometer, AB Sciex, 5062231 + EXION AC);
• ALPHA II FTIR spectrometer with an ATR module, offering a wide range of applications, including the analysis of grain, milk and dairy products.
