Research Laboratory “Ecological Toxicology and Biodiversity”
The Research Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology and Biodiversity was established in 2026 to conduct comprehensive research in the assessment of the environmental condition of natural sites, the study of genotoxicity and biodiversity, as well as the implementation of modern molecular genetic analysis methods.
The laboratory's activities focus on studying the impact of anthropogenic factors on aquatic ecosystems using cytogenetic, molecular biological, and bioindication methods, including the Allium test, PCR analysis, and DNA sequencing.
Laboratory objective: To develop and implement scientifically based methods for the bioindication of aquatic ecosystems in the North Kazakhstan Region, including the Ishim River, transboundary reservoirs (the Sergeev Reservoir), and major lakes, in order to assess and minimize anthropogenic impacts on water quality and biodiversity.
The main objective of the Research Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology and Biodiversity is to participate in research and development activities focused on developing and implementing scientifically based methods for the bioindication of aquatic ecosystems in order to assess and minimize anthropogenic impacts on water quality and biodiversity.
Main objectives of the laboratory:
- To develop and test methods and criteria for the bioindication of major water bodies in the North Kazakhstan Region, taking into account seasonal and hydrological changes.
- To conduct comprehensive studies of changes in hydrological processes in the Ishim River basin and assess their impact on water quality and ecosystem conditions.
- To develop adapted methodologies for studying biological species inhabiting confined water bodies, taking into account seasonal changes and environmental factors.
- To prepare scientifically based recommendations to support educational programmes aimed at studying the effects of toxic and mutagenic factors in water resources on the genetic systems of animals.
