Students learned about the secrets of paleogenetics

Do you know what population genetics is? What is its peculiarity among the peoples of Eurasia? How can genetics be used as a method of verifying the genera of Kazakhs? These and other questions were answered by an expert in this field, a well-known historian, candidate of Sciences, Doctor Zhaksylyk Sabitov. At Kozybayev University, he held a guest lecture for students and teachers.

Zhaksylyk Muratovich is among the top 3 Kazakhstani historians in three scientometric databases (WebofScience, Scopus, the core of the RSCI). He is a laureate of the international independent award Webofscienceward «Leader of Science 2020». At the university, he spoke about the paleogenetics of the ancient and medieval population of our country, the Golden Horde period, the history of the formation of the Kazakh people.

«We will consider three systems of genetic kinship: the direct male line, which we easily associate with the shezhire of Kazakh clans, the tribal division of Kazakhs; also mitochondrial DNA and autosomal markers. These are very important tools that allow us to determine when the people formed as a whole,» Zhaksylyk Sabitov said. In addition, he held a master class with teachers of the city's schools about changing academic history and the state standard of its teaching.
