International accreditation

The procedure of the accreditation of three degree programmes 5В071800 Electrical Power Engineering (Bachelor degree), 6M071800 Electrical Power Engineering (Master degree) and 5В071600 Instrument Engineering (Bachelor degree) of the University was completed successfully. It is the first experiment of the international independent estimation of the degree programmes’ quality in the University’s practice.

In 2011 the University set itself a task to obtain accreditation of Bachelor and Master degrees of engineering programmes at the German agency ASIIN. It should be noted, that the ASIIN agency was recommended by the MES of RK for accreditation of domestic HEIs, as it is one of the well-known and authoritative accreditation agency in Europe, distinguished with the degree programmes requirements.

Accreditation in the Kazakhstani higher education system

For 2 years a collective of the University has improved a teaching process and methodological provision of specialties actively. Within the framework of preparation for the accreditation workgroups on a development of the obtaining accreditation programmes was set up, consisting of work spaces representatives. Modularization of programmes was conducted, modular and personnel directories were developed. A great number of contracts were made with companies, scientific works on the grants of MES of RK were activated by the Department of energetic and instrument-making. English courses were organized for teachers of departments of energetic and instrument-making, radio technician and electronics, information systems.    

 Details about preparatory work

Visit of ASIIN experts took place in 16-18 April, 2013. Meeting of peers with administrations of the University, teachers, students and leaders of energetic companies was held within the framework of visit. Peers studied normative, organizational and methodological documents, work programmes, models of students and graduates proficiency works, educational and methodological complexes, other materials, which the HEI provided during the auditing.  

In assessing the quality of educational programs ASIIN peers noted the following strong points:

  • the quality of the theoretical training of students in fundamental disciplines;
  • the level of planning practical training of students in laboratories and control the acquisition of knowledge, skills and competencies in the performance of laboratory work;
  • highly motivated teaching staff and students;
  • a high level of consulting support of students;
  • a high level of the contact of teaching staff and students, well-structured dialogue between them;
  • a high level of planning the learning process.

In 27 September, 2013 ASIIN Accreditation Commission adopted a decision on accreditation of three educational programs of the University, as well as the assignment of program quality label EUR-ACE ®. This seal is issued as proof of program compliance with the pan-European requirements, defined in the "EUR-ACE Framework Standards for the Accreditation of Engineering Programs."

Graduates of the program that are marked with this seal, have the right to call themselves "EUR-ACE ® Bachelor" and "EUR-ACE ® Master". The presence of European Label contributes to the development of academic and professional mobility of graduates and is a guarantee that the graduates of these programmes meets the requirements and have a specific set of personal and professional competencies needed to start a professional activity.

In the current academic year the University plans to continue the accreditation of degree programs and prepare for the external evaluation of the 5B071900 Radioengineering, electronics and telecommunications, 6M071900 Radioengineering, electronics and telecommunications, 5B070300 Information Systems, 6M070300 Information Systems, 5B011100 Informatics.
